Educational Leadership

The Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, TX has almost 40,000 students. 95% are Latino and most are classified as economically disadvantaged. Watch school principals talk about the impact of instructional rounds and a focus on cognitive rigor in their schools. First Revolution did deep work with YISD, helping the district advance from a "B" to an "A" rating.

Cognitive Rigor & Deeper Learning

In classrooms across the country, students are routinely under-challenged because they are rarely asked to do more than recall, summarize, or repeat basic procedures. Using a combination of instructional rounds and specific protocols for identifying and boosting cognitive rigor in classrooms, we help schools and districts build critical and creative thinkers. The result is greater engagement, higher test scores, and deeper learning.

Talk Sense

These methods were taught to aspiring school superintendents for over 25 years at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and have helped thousands of school and district leaders dramatically improve the quality of their communication and decision making. We've trained leaders in districts throughout the country including Chicago Public Schools, Los Angeles Unified, San Francisco Unified, Minneapolis Public Schools, and many others. This is perfectly suited for superintendents and cabinet-level leaders, principals and assistant principals, instructional coaches, and district staff.

School Climate & Safety

We have extensive experience helping schools with serious climate and safety issues transform their cultures. As a middle and high school principal, Dr. Cediel led a team that reduced campus fights by 75% and in-school suspensions by 80%. He is also a national expert in reducing community-based violence and is an instructor and steering committee member for the University of Chicago's Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy.

“I have found Dr. Cediel to be an extremely skilled and thoughtful educator. He has a wealth of expertise related to teaching, learning, and school improvement; he has a nuanced understanding of what it takes to lead reforms on a district-wide scale; and he understand the conditions, parameters, and challenges that a superintendent faces when trying to operationalize complex initiatives.”

Dr. Xavier De La Torre, Superintendent

Ysleta Independent School District
